The Campbell Scientific PWS100 present weather sensor uses the forward scattering of a light beam from a transmitter to two offset terminals in orthogonal planes to measure a range of weather conditions. These include visibility and the details (drop size distribution, accumulation, rate, fall velocity) of any precipitation. It incorporates a temperature and relative humidity sensor. It reports the current weather conditions as WMO SYNOP, WMO METAR and NWS codes.
The present weather sensor has been deployed at Chilbolton Observatory since 2011.
